In the Middle of a LONG weekend

Yesterday (Thursday), turned into a very long day. I had to drive to Atlanta, but, had a couple of pressing things to do first. Since living things get precedence, the first task of the day was to cook up another eight cups of sugar into bee candy for the girls. Then, I had 3+ gallons of tomatoes that HAD to be canned today (Or, I might as well throw them out, as they would rot by the time I got back). To complicate matters, some email related brushfires kept me logged into a client site for MUCH longer than I would have liked.

However, I got everything done, finally, and, by 11:00 or so, I was up on The Hill, tucking a couple of big chunks of the candy into the two hives, to help the girls build more comb. The swarm hive from the extraction actually still had a bit of the stuff left from the other day. The package Hive, though, was all gone, so they were pretty happy to get the supplement.

From there, it was a long drive to Atlanta. I finally arrived at my sister’s house at about 3:15 in the morning on Friday. I would have gotten there a bit sooner, but, I got slowed by a short interaction with the authorities at a police roadblock a short way away from my destination. While unconstitutional, they are pretty popular….

In this case, the cop walked up to the window and wanted to see my drivers license and proof of insurance. It took me a moment or two to dig through the stack o cards in the wallet, so he jumped in and said “what, can’t find it???” I replied, politely, that this is a world of many little cards and it takes a minute to find the right one. When I pulled out my Tennessee driver’s license, he looked at it, and asked “you don’t have a Georgia driver’s license?” Biting off the smart-ass reply that came to mind first, I looked at him and said “Not a resident of Georgia”. Amazing how quickly he lost interest in me after that.

So…now, I am in a decent hotel in Huntsville, having driving ANOTHER four hours, on my way to the annual Hamfest. Lots of radio and computer equipment, I suspect, but probably NO beekeeping stuff…
